Praise be to Allah Who has created Time and has made some times better than others, some months, days and nights better than others, in a sense that rewards are multiplied many times than the case in other periods of time. This reflects Allah’s overflowing mercy towards His servants, and it encourages them to do more righteous deeds and be more eager to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepare himself for death and supply himself in readiness for the Day of Judgement.

Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There are no days greater in the sight of Allah and in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so during this time recite a great deal of Tahlil (saying: 'there is no god but Allah'), Takbir and Tahmid." (Reported by Ahmad)

Muslims are encouraged to do certain acts of worship during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah to maximize the reward.

1- Fasting: It is Sunnah to fast on the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah (day of Arafah). Fasting on this day will expiate for the sins of two years.

2- Takbir: It is Sunnah to say takbir (ٱللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ | Allahu akbar | Allah is the greatest), tahmid (ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّٰهِ‎ | Alhamdulillah | Praise be to Allah), tahlil (لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ | la ilaha illallah | There is none worthy of worship except Allah) and tasbih ( سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ | Subhan Allah | Glory be to Allah) during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and to say it loudly in every place where it is permitted to remember Allah and mention His name out loud, as an act of worship and as a proclamation of the greatness of Allah, may He be exalted.

3- Performing Hajj and `Umrah: One of the best deeds that one can do during these ten days is to perform Hajj to the Sacred House of Allah. The one whom Allah helps to offer Hajj to His House and to perform all the rituals properly is included in the words of the Prophet (ﷺ): "An accepted Hajj brings no less a reward than Paradise."

4- Doing more good deeds in general: Whoever is not able to offer Hajj should occupy himself at this blessed time with acts of worship, offering Prayers, reading the Qur’an, remembering Allah, making supplications, giving in charity, showing dutifulness to parents, maintaining the ties of kinship, enjoining what is good, forbidding what is evil, and so on.

5- Sacrifice: Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the prophet (PBUH) said (in the meaning of) that the sacrifice is the best of the actions that a Muslim does on the day of Eid.

6- Sincere repentance: One of the most important things to do during these ten days is to repent sincerely to Allah and to give up all kinds of disobedience and sin.

Honestly, time is fleeting & there's so much to be gained, so let us make the most of the opportunity afforded by these invaluable and irreplaceable ten days. Hasten to do good works, before death strikes, before one can regret one's negligence and failure to act, before one is asked to return to a place where no prayers will be answered, before death intervenes between the hopeful one and the things he hopes for, before we are trapped with our deeds in the grave.

Let us continue learning and sharing more of the good, as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer."
"Whoever calls others to guidance will have a reward like that of those who follow it, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest."
(Sahih Muslim 1893, Riyad as-Salihin 1382)
